Le Telfair Gold and Spa Resort, flanked by the slopes of the Paine Champagne mountain, is located in the south west of Mauritius on the former sugar estate of Bel Ombre. The landscape serves as an extension of the contrasting hard and soft elements of the Maurituan and French colonial architecture of the hotel. The scale is fine-grained, introducing intricate detail on a large scale, with a wide variety of plants selected for visual impact.
A strong central axis, emphasised by a linear water feature, runs from the entrance boulevard through the reception buildings, incorporating the swimming pool and on to the sea. Apart from this formal structure, all other areas are gloriously random and free.
